Job Summary This posting will be used to fill one (1) Assistant Park Manager position to direct and administer the Department of Natural Resources and the Division of Parks and Trails programs, activities, policies, budgets and rules at Tettegouche State Park, Temperance River and George H. Crosby-Manitou State Parks. Also serving the Palisade Valley Recreational Unit of Tettegouche State Park, and Finland and Eckbeck State Forest Recreation Areas. Responsibilities include: Personnel management: Recruit, interview, hire, direct, schedule and train employees. Physical plant Management: Repair, maintenance and custodial services for buildings, grounds, utilities and all other facilities. Fiscal Management: Management of revenue operations, budgets and purchasing of goods and services. Resource Management: Management of natural and cultural resources of the park. Visitor Services and Interpretive Program Management: Administration of vehicle permit sales, campground operation and operation of all public facilities. Also includes administration of the park's personal and non-personal interpretive programs. Enforcement and Emergency Services: Enforcement of all relevant rules and statutes as well as provide for emergency response to ensure visitor safety. Public Relations: Provide information both to park visitors and to the local community via media outlets. Also includes involvement with local community interest groups. Policy and Planning: Setting up a unit management plan for the park and participating in Division and Department planning groups.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: CATEGORY 1-One year experience as a park manager or assistant park manager in a MN State Park as a NR Supervisor 2-Parks or higher; OR CATEGORY 2-Two years' experience as a park manager, assistant park manager, or park operations supervisor in a MN State Park as a NR Supervisor 1-Parks or higher; OR CATEGORY 3A-Three years professional or supervisory experience in a natural resource organization that includes region-wide or statewide responsibilities for program development, implementation, evaluation and oversight in at least one of the following areas: 1) environmental education or natural resource interpretation; 2) management and preservation of natural resources; 3) natural resource based recreation planning; or 4) park or trail development and implementation; OR CATEGORY 3B-Three years professional or supervisory experience in a natural resource organization that includes responsibilities for program development, implementation and evaluation in at least one of the following areas: 1) environmental education or natural resource interpretation; 2) management and preservation of natural resources; 3) natural resource based recreation planning; or 4) park or trail development and implementation; AND one year experience supervising staff and developing spending plans and/or managing a budget. INCLUDE information pertaining to the number and type of staff supervised and the size and complexity of the spending plans and/or budget. NOTE: It is possible to meet the program experience and supervisory and budget experience simultaneously in a total of three years; OR CATEGORY 3C-Three years professional or supervisory experience as a park or recreation area manager in a federal, state, or county/regional park with responsibilities in at least three of the following areas: 1) customer service; 2) supervision; 3) developing spending plans and/or managing a budget; 4) management, interpretation and/or preservation of natural resources; and 5) building and grounds maintenance and/or development. Include information pertaining to the number and type of staff supervised and the size and complexity of the spending plans and/or budget.

Plus: Knowledge of natural resource principles, practices and trends. Interpersonal/communications skills sufficient to create a positive working environment, make expectations clear, and effectively serve the public. Ability to manage large projects, prioritize, set direction, plan/organize and schedule work tasks and bring appropriate matters to division management. Ability to manage complex and/or politically sensitive issues. Ability to anticipate and resolve emerging challenges. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills. Problem solving skills. Ability to analyze data and prepare reports. Ability to direct delivery of quality and safe visitor services.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of MN State Park rules, policies, programs and procedures related to park management and resource protection. Knowledge of emergency services and safety practices and programs. Experience managing complex projects. Experience managing a budget. Experience as a Supervisor in a Minnesota State Park or Minnesota Area Trail operation. Experience dealing with conflicts and emergency situations. Knowledge of construction trades including building, utilities, road and trail construction as well as design skills sufficient to scope projects, prepare project proposals and directly oversee construction crews. Experience participating in physically demanding resource management tasks. Skill in word processing, spreadsheet and database software programs.

Physical Requirements Requires occasionally lifting articles such as 50-pound bags of feed maximum and frequently lifting and/or carrying objects such as heavy tools and file boxes. This job may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
