NY – Taughannock overlook visitor center officially opens

The redesigned overlook at Taughannock Falls State Park is officially open.

The $1.9 million project created a visitor center with an information desk, informational signs and restrooms and a redesigned parking area.

The new parking lot has permeable pavers, clearly defined parking spaces and low walls for sitting. The building has large doors on three sides that can make the building an indoor/outdoor facility.

Construction began in spring 2015, but the park’s signature overlook remained open to visitors throughout the construction.

The project was part of the NY Parks 2020 initiative, a multi-year commitment to leverage $900 million in private and public funding for state parks through 2020, according to a news release.
