The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MNDNR) Division of Parks and Trails has an opening for an Assistant Park Manager stationed at Lake Bronson State Park. This is a wonderful opportunity to begin a supervisory career within the Division of Parks and Trails. The Assistant Park Manager position will learn through an array of experiences typical of an outdoor recreation location.

Tucked away in Northwest Minnesota in Kittson County just outside the City of Lake Bronson, Lake Bronson State Park sits in a transition area between the prairie and forest landscapes and supports a variety of wildlife and plant life. Lake Bronson State Park is a part of the South Branch of the Two Rivers System and offers abundant access to many different kinds of outdoor activities. There is of course the lake itself with plenty of use in the winter and summer, but there are also numerous trails in the park and plenty of other spaces for other recreational pursuits. Kittson County itself enjoys wide open vistas for capturing both sunrises and sunsets, as well as skies free from light pollution for stargazing and catching the Northern Lights.

The Assistant Park Manager opening (Job Class: Natural Resources Supervisor 1 Parks & Trails) is a full-time year-round supervisory position for both Lake Bronson and Old Mill State Parks (located 40 minutes south of Lake Bronson). The position is responsible for the administration, supervision and implementation of the MNDNR programs, activities, policies and rules pertaining to the operation of both parks. This position exists to provide direct supervisory work for both locations in the management and operation of the staff, facilities and park amenities, the management and operation of the outdoor recreational pursuits and assists in the natural resources management. This position also assists with the management of the Lake Bronson Dam and all the regular operations associated with lake management and seasonal high water events. Housing is provided at Lake Bronson in the park and is mandatory. Hours of work and days off will vary and will include regular weekend hours, with some occasional evening shifts and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Natural Resources Management, Parks and Recreation, Business, Communications or other closely related field; and two years of para-professional or professional experience that includes lead-work, directing staff, or managing a project with staff; or professional level work in a natural resources setting or field.
  • A Bachelor’s or advanced degree in natural resource management, parks and recreation, natural science, communications, public relations, business management, political science, public administration, social science or closely related degree may substitute for one year of the experience listed above.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires regular lifting of articles such as 50 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting of articles up to 100 pounds frequently lifting and/or carrying objects such as heavy tools and file boxes. This job will require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
