The Assistant Superintendent supervises employees and park operations in the absence of the Park Superintendent and assists in management, planning, rules enforcement, and operations. This position directly supervises the parks housekeeping section and seasonal interpreter. Responsibilities include, acting as the park safety officer, performing capital equipment inventory, trail management, performing office and front desk duties, ordering supplies, and providing monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports. The position also acts as the Park Interpreter and is responsible for planning, coordinating, directing, and presenting interpretive programs and special events to park visitors, civic groups, and private organizations. Duties include research and presentations on the flora, fauna, and history of the park, preparing media releases, reports, and brochures, preparing presentations, exhibits, and written scripts for audio-visual programs. Other duties include trail walks, boat tours, kayak tours, public relations, conservation, and other duties as assigned. Will be required to work a varied schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. A criminal background check and a driver’s record check will be performed. Applicants for this position are not currently required to be commissioned law enforcement officers but this could change in the future after a candidate is selected.

Applicants must meet or exceed the following qualifications: The formal educational equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in business, park management, hospitality management, or a related field; plus one year of experience in park management, including six months in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
